Surfing on Nusa Lembongan

Lembongan's best-known waves, including Shipwrecks, Lacerations and Playgrounds, break over coral reef off the island's west coast near Jungutbatu. They're usually reached by a short boat ride. Of the three, Playgrounds is generally the most forgiving and suits intermediate surfers.

Can beginners surf on Lembongan?

Because the waves break over reef, Lembongan is better suited to surfers who can already catch and ride green waves. Some local schools offer lessons on small days with a careful choice of spot and tide. Ask whether reef boots are recommended.

Getting there and best season

Fast boats from Sanur take roughly 30–45 minutes. Lembongan's surf works in both seasons depending on swell and wind, and local guides know which reef is best each day.

How much do surf lessons cost?

As a rough guide, a 2-hour group lesson in Bali usually costs around IDR 350,000–500,000 per person, and a private lesson around IDR 600,000–1,000,000. Transport, board hire and photos may be extra, so check what's included.
